Treatments for Snoring & OSA
Surgeries for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)
The next consideration for OSA would be surgery with Dr Naveed Basheeth providing the optimal option(s) based on the patient age, history and anatomy. The various surgical procedures vary depending on the technique, approach and the region being operated on. For instance, adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy will be most effective for children with obstructive sleep apnoea. Tonsillectomy involves the surgical removal of the tonsils, which are two oval-shaped pads of tissue located on either side of the back of the throat (pharynx). In the case of enlarged tonsils being the contributing factors to airway obstruction, tonsillectomy may be performed on select adults as well.
Adenoidectomy involves the surgical removal of the adenoids (when enlarged and obstructing the airway), which are similar to tonsils but located higher up in the throat behind the nose. Septoplasty can help straighten the nasal septum if a deviated septum is the cause for a blocked nose. For some others, an expansion palatoplasty may be considered.
