Identify Your Problems & Find Your Solutions
Septal Perforation
Septal perforation is a condition where there is a hole or opening in the nasal septum, the wall of tissue that divides the nasal cavity into two nostrils. This perforation can result from various causes such as trauma - sometimes from a previous nasal surgery, certain medications (like nasal sprays), or underlying medical conditions (like autoimmune diseases) or cocaine use. This can cause annoying problems including significant nasal crusting, bleeding, bad breath, whistling noise, dry nose, nasal congestion.
Fix-It
Although conservatively managed, this is a permanent condition which can be surgically corrected for a permanent resolution.
This can be done using either open or closed approach using pedicled flap and/or augmentation with multiple layers including mucosal and cartilaginous grafts embedded with collagen matrix.
Dr Naveed Basheeth gets tertiary referrals for complex septal perforation closures. Although the results depend on postoperative healing process, Dr Basheeth’s outcomes have been consistently remarkable.
