Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a ‘nose job’, is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgeries globally. This plastic surgery reconstructs the form or shape of the nose to improve your profile. It can also make you look aesthetically better or to correct congenital or structural defects such as a deviated nasal septum. It is widely acknowledged as one of the most complex cosmetic surgeries, particularly for nasal corrections.

What it Does ...

Aesthetically,  it can:

  • Reduce or enlarge your nose

  • Adjust shape of tip or bridge

  • Narrow nostril width

  • Alter angle between nose and upper lip

  • Reduce ‘hump’ on your nose

  • Straighten crooked nose

  • Repair birth deformities (of aesthetic/functional impact)

  • Repair damage caused by injury, autoimmune conditions, or cocaine usage

  • Enhance aesthetic impression of your nose

Functionally, it can:

  • Correct anomalies caused by infection, cancer, trauma or accidents

  • Remove nasal obstructions or nasal valve collapse (alar collapse)

Know the Process ...

Dr Basheeth will conduct a detailed evaluation of your facial and nasal features, including any existing scars and symmetry (and asymmetry) of nasal subunits. A nasal structure analysis covers exact measurements of your nose in terms of width, length, projection and angles.

A thorough physical examination of nasal functions like breathing and deviation of the septum among others will further determine your suitability for surgery. You should have completed growth (16 for girls and 17 for boys) and should be in good health, overall.

While you are informed about the duration and extent of the surgery, you may also talk about your concerns, goals and expectations from the procedure. A number of other issues like your age and ethnicity may factor in when it comes to a nose job. Final outcome and healing time would depend on your nasal skin quality which is assessed for elasticity, thickness and sebaceous characteristics.

A customised treatment plan will then be provided, with the optimal technique(s), that suits and works best for you. This plan intends to safeguard your new nose from any functional concerns that may arise post-surgery. For the same, preventive measures are executed especially when the procedure is for cosmetic reasons.

Finally, your surgeon will engage you in a discussion with photos - along with markings- and computer-generated imaging to mimic probable results for the respective patient.

Rhinoplasty is conducted in a hospital as an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home the same day. General anaesthesia may sometimes be administered with local anaesthesia with or without sedation.

Before an elective surgery, be it surgical or non-surgical you might want to go through various considerations, some of which are mentioned in the previous page.
