Osteotomy
Osteotomy is a surgical technique used not only in rhinoplasty but other plastic surgeries and orthopedics, to intentionally cut and reshape bone. In the context of nose surgery, osteotomy specifically refers to the controlled breaking and reshaping of the nasal bones to achieve desired changes in the shape, size, or width of the nose. Precise cuts are made typically within the nostrils to access the nasal bones. These bones are cut according to the pre-planned adjustments to alter their position, shape, or alignment. They are reshaped and/or repositioned. Any additional procedures are done and the incisions are closed with sutures. Incisions are hidden and allows for reduced scarring. Dr Basheeth performs his osteotomies using precision powered instruments called piezoelectric osteotomes.
