Surgeries for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)
Modified Genioplasty
Modified genioplasty for sleep-related breathing disorder (SRBD) involves rotational repositioning of the chin bone (mandible) to advance it forward, making more room in the oropharynx, and thereby reducing airway obstruction during sleep. This surgical treatment is recommended specifically in cases where the obstruction or airway narrowing is caused or exacerbated by anatomical factors like a recessed chin or a retruded lower jaw (mandible).
With the chin repositioning, the soft tissues around the throat and base of the tongue may be pulled forward, reducing their tendency to collapse and obstruct the airway. This treatment can lead to improvements in snoring, sleep quality, and daytime symptoms associated with SRBD.
