Lip Lift

If you would like to enhance the appearance of your lips, then a lip lift is the way to go. It shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip, also known as the philtrum. This is a great way to create more volume and height to your upper lip permanently, and create more facial balance, especially if you have an elongated white upper lip.

What it Does ...

  • Increase visibility of upper lip & enhance its shape, & fullness

  • Lifting & Reshaping upper lip area to reverse signs of aging at philtrum

  • Elevates upper lip to create youthful & attractive facial contour

  • Lip rejuvenation & augmentation can prevent fillers and implants

  • Directly addresses length of the "white lip" while enhancing volume of the "red lip".

  • Can correct long upper lip that hangs over the upper teeth

Bullhorn Lip Lift (Modified Upper Lip Lift)

This is the most common technique where a small incision is made just beneath the base of the nose, and a strip of skin is removed. The incision is typically designed to resemble the shape of a bull's horns, hence the name. This technique allows for precise control over how much the lip is lifted.

b)  Corner Lip Lift

This procedure focuses on lifting the corners of the mouth (oral commissures) to create a more upturned or smile-like appearance. It is often combined with other lip procedures for comprehensive results.

The Process

For the Bullhorn lip lift, the surgeon’s markings must be meticulous and perfect to a tee to ensure the lips are as symmetrical as possible. Of the two layers of stitches used, the deeper ones dissolve over time. The surgery generally lasts for an hour after which patients experience very little discomfort.

In the planning phase, approximately 3-8 mm of skin is removed. Individuals seeking a more sophisticated look, opt for the philtrum to be adjusted to 11-12 mm (13-14 mm is normal). Achieving an even more pouty upper lip is possible at around 10 mm.

Some swelling and bruising are common immediately after surgery. Cold compresses and pain medication may be recommended to manage discomfort. Sutures (superficial) are usually removed after a week.

Complete healing usually takes a few weeks. During this time, patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities and limit excessive face movement, plus follow post-operative care instructions provided by their surgeon. This may include oral hygiene, hydration and diet restrictions.

Patients typically notice immediate improvement in the appearance of their lips, with full results becoming more apparent as swelling subsides. Results from a lip lift surgery are generally long-lasting, providing enduring enhancement to the upper lip shape and position.

Eligibility & Indications

  • Suitable for both younger and older patients.

  • Upper lip tends to elongate, causing longer "white lip" and thinner "red lip".

  • Elongation can give upper lip an "ape-like" or Simian appearance (mainly due to effects of gravity, loss of skin elasticity and muscles that resist gravitational forces).

  • Decreased skin elasticity caused by genetic factors and lifelong sun exposure.
