Jowl Lift

As you age, the skin and tissues in the lower parts of the cheeks (jowls) and jawline can lose elasticity, causing the jowls to sag and create a less defined jawline. A jowl lift, or lower facelift, focusses on addressing sagging jowls and other concerns related to aging.

Purpose

A jowl lift typically involves lifting and tightening the skin and underlying tissues around the jawline, including the common “turkey neck”, to reduce the appearance of jowls and restore a more youthful jawline contour. The lower third of the face is paid attention here, unlike a full facelift.

  • Smooths deep wrinkles

  • Enhances the corners of the mouth

  • Less extensive procedure compared to a full facelift

  • Treats loose jawline and neck skin

The Process

A lower facelift is performed in a hospital under general anaesthesia. Small incisions are strategically placed around and behind the ear, often concealed within natural creases, with additional possible incisions under the chin for optimal concealment. These incisions result in well-hidden scars. The SMAS muscle layer, responsible for jowls, is carefully lifted and tightened, and excess skin is precisely trimmed and closed with sutures.

In some cases, a platysmaplasty may be required to address significant skin and muscle laxity in the central neck area. Additionally, fat removal from the neck may be performed using liposuction or alternative methods as deemed necessary.
