Endoscopic Ear Surgery & Related Procedures

Ear Microsurgery

Ear microsurgery encompasses a range of intricate procedures such as tympanoplasty, myringoplasty, myringotomy, mastoidectomy, and other microscopic surgeries focused on middle ear conditions. Myringotomy addresses middle ear effusion. Exploratory tympanotomy is utilised for otosclerosis, involving fixation of the ossicular chain. These surgeries are performed under the precision of an ear microscope, qualifying them as ear microsurgeries.

Microscopic ear surgery is primarily suggested for patients with a broad range of ear problems like chronic ear infections, loss of hearing, balance problems, tinnitus and tumours. This type of surgery can also help in removing earwax, repairing a perforated eardrum, and correcting congenital abnormalities of the ear.

Local anaesthesia is commonly used, although general anaesthesia may be necessary in select cases. Post-operatively, patients typically require mastoid dressing for about a week and may need hospitalisation for 2-5 days for close monitoring and recovery.
