Colloid Nodules
Colloid Nodules are benign nodules consisting of enlarged thyroid tissue that can occur as single or multiple growths, sometimes reaching considerable size. They are typically diagnosable through needle biopsy, which often provides reassurance to patients. However, if a nodule grows large enough to cause compressive symptoms in the neck or significant cosmetic deformity, surgery may be necessary. Additionally, some nodules can lead to hyperthyroidism. These nodules come up "hot" on a thyroid scintigram or I131 scintigraphy, indicating increased activity compared to surrounding thyroid tissue.
