Closed (Endonasal) Approach
A closed rhinoplasty involves making all incisions inside the nose. The surgeon works through these internal incisions to access and reshape the nasal bones, cartilage, and tissues. It is important to note that a closed approach does not necessarily mean an alternative approach to open since each technique addresses different issues and offers varied benefits.
Suitability
This technique can address various aspects of the nose such as the nasal tip, dorsum, nasal septum, and width. Closed rhinoplasty is typically suitable for patients requiring minor to moderate alterations to the nasal structure, particularly when the nasal tip does not require significant modification. It can address issues such as nasal bridge augmentation, narrowing of the nostrils, and correction of minor asymmetries. Various techniques can be employed in closed rhinoplasty, including dorsal hump reduction, nasal tip refinement, septoplasty (straightening the nasal septum), and narrowing or widening of the nasal bones.
Benefits
No visible scars due to hidden incisions
Reduced swelling
Faster recovery
Less post-operative nasal numbness
Preservation of nasal support
Option (sometimes) for fear of external incision
Less disruption to nasal tissues
